I was at the point in my life where I was truly my own best friend. Is it crazy to say that I was so captivated by the opening line of someone's dating profile that I actually had the tiniest inkling my life was about to change?
I felt whole on my own, but I knew that I was ready to share my life with someone -- if I met the right someone. It is crazy, but what's even crazier is that (unbeknownst to me) that profile was created less than two hours before I came across it. Let me rewind about six months to a night where I found myself bored and curious and.. In terms of demographics, online dating is most common among Americans in their mid-20’s through mid-40’s.
Some 22% of 25-34 year olds, and 17% of 35-44 year olds are online daters—that is roughly double the rate for those ages 18-24 or those ages 45-54.
Some are currently in long-standing relationships that predate the adoption of online dating, while others are single but not actively looking for a romantic partner.
If we examine only those Americans who are most inclined to online dating—that is, the 7% of the public that is both single and actively looking for a partner—some 38% of these individuals have used online dating sites or dating apps.
There were the positive moments -- feeling butterflies for the first time in awhile, hilarious conversations after long nights, trips to Pride and gay bars and hanging out with one woman's huge group of gay friends.
