The EU referendum campaign officially kicked off the same day with the ‘Britain Stronger in Europe’ and ‘Vote Leave’ to begin criss crossing the UK in order to get their message to the voters.
The tabloid Sun got involved as it blazoned its front page with the lead, ‘Queen Backs Brexit’. The United Kingdom had voted to leave the European Union, he went on. EU politicians wasted no time with visits to Downing Street.
And so it was on that Friday morning June 24th the country awaited a decision that would change the face of Britain and its people for decades to come. Scrambling to put my clothes on and get my gear together, I headed out into a murky summer’s morning to the home of Boris Johnson. In those weeks over the summer of 2016 politics had never been so exciting, so explosive.
